On September 14, 1863 Major Amos McLemore while his soldiers were quartered elsewhere was shot by Newt Knight. The wind moaned as Amos fell and died in front of the fireplace. It is said that even after the blood stain was cleaned up it continued to come back. Every time it rained and the wind howled, just as it did on that fateful night the blood stain returned. You can still see the stain under the house where the blood came through the floor onto the rafters. Another spirit by the name of Jennie passed away in the house. The funeral was held on the front porch of the Deason Home. Here her body was lovingly laid out adorned by gardenias clipped from the bushes on the groundss. Apparently Jennie's spirit was disquited following her sudden death and she desired to return to her final place of happiness the Deason home. It has been said that Jennie's spirit roams the grounds in May when the gardenias are in full bloom and that on a hazy night you would see a spirit believed to be her drifting among the flowers.
