The bridge, completed in 1937, was the first reinforced congrete box girder bridge in the United States and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Sometime in the late seventies, a child was hit by a car on the Purdy bridge (since his death a guardrail has been put in place.) Occasionally you can see him dart across the bridge. There is no predicting when he will appear.
